What is March for Water?

March for Water is a global movement of people walking in solidarity with the world’s poorest communities.

Around the world 1 in 10 people have no choice but to walk tirelessly long distances to fetch water – often up to 16km in a single trip. It's a burden that usually falls to women and children, whose days can't possibly begin until they've done this walk.

This March, we walk as a global community to take a stand and transform lives with clean water.

It’s simple – pledge how far you’ll walk on top of your normal routine, get sponsorship for your challenge and get walking throughout March. Use your fundraising page to collect fundraising money and track the progress of your target distance.

Why march now?

Our climate is changing. It's threatening water supplies. Now is the time to act.

Climate change is making life harder for the 785 million people already struggling to get clean water - and it’s only going to get worse.

As average temperatures keep rising, floods are becoming more common and more extreme, polluting water sources. And longer droughts mean the wells and springs people rely on are running dry.

Every day, already fragile water supplies are at even greater risk of disappearing completely. That means those without clean water close to home will only have to walk even further to find precious water. More time searching for water means less time for school, for work, or taking care of your family. It denies people the chance to live a safe and healthy life.

Join the movement to step up, raise money and march in solidarity – so we can transform lives with clean water.

What we do

With the help of amazing people like you, we're working with our partners in some of the toughest places in the world. Together, we've already reached millions of people with clean waterdecent toilets and good hygiene, enabling entire communities to unlock their potential, break free from poverty and change their lives for good.

And while installing taps and toilets is essential to our work, we do so much more.

We convince governments to change laws, link policy makers with people on the ground, pool knowledge and resources and rally support from people and organisations around the world, making lasting change happen on a massive scale.

In the last year alone, you helped us reach:

1,357,000 people with clean water

1,356,000 people with decent toilets

2,086,000 people with good hygiene
